Newtown, Conn., Feb. 25, 2014 – The Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc. announced today it will partner with Newtown Scholarship Association to host the Betty Lou Osborne Memorial Scholarship Ball. The formal event will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m. at The Waterview in Monroe. Proceeds from the Ball will benefit both organizations to advance their respective missions: providing need-based college scholarships for Newtown students and supporting families affected by the tragedy of 12/14/12.

“We are honored to be sharing in a long standing tradition of this successful event held each year by the Newtown Scholarship Association” said Brian Mauriello, Founder of Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc. “Newtown Scholarship Association is a beacon within the community, especially for the recipients of scholarships that they fund or administer. Their unparalleled level of commitment to assisting local students with rising college tuition costs aligns well with a key component of our mission of providing post-secondary school scholarships for future generations of students, specifically those who were affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.”

Individual tickets to attend the Ball are $150 per person and include dinner and dancing with music provided by the local and popular band Locomotion. A Silent and Live Auction will also be held for items that include professional sports memorabilia, an African safari, a week in Maine, a weekend in Vermont, and a night out in New York City complete with theater tickets, dinner, and transportation in and out of the city with a private driver / car.

Tickets and further event details can be found at http://newtownmemorialfund.org/event/2014-gala/.  Sponsorships are available for purchase and range in price from $500-$5,000. All Sponsors will receive tickets to the event along with program advertising and special recognition on both of the organization’s websites.  If Sponsors are unable to utilize the included tickets due to timing or location, they can donate tickets in whole or in part to first responders who serve the Newtown community.

The Ball is named in memory of Betty Lou Osborne, who served on the Newtown Scholarship Association’s Board of Directors for almost 40 years. A pillar of the community, Betty Lou was steadfast in her belief that all high school graduates from Newtown deserve the chance to attend college—regardless of their financial circumstances. Since its founding in 1937, the Newtown Scholarship Association has awarded nearly $4 million in need-based scholarships and continuing aid to more than 1,500 high-school graduates from Newtown. The scholarships are funded through the generous donations of local individuals and businesses.
